The program offers comprehensive one-year positions as either a subspecialty resident or a clinical fellow. Subspecialty residents are Canadian trainees in Diagnostic Radiology who are eligible for subspecialty training at accredited programs under Royal College guidelines, while fellows may be from any nation provided that they have completed or will soon complete appropriate training in radiology.
Applicants should either have completed or be eligible to write certification exams administered by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Radiology, or an equivalent certifying institution in their home country.
Academic Excellence
Both fellows and residents will receive equivalent training in Pediatric Radiology that is aligned with the Royal College subspecialty training requirements. This entails immersion in core modalities and anatomic disciplines crucial to pediatric radiology, encompassing exposure to pediatric nuclear medicine and fetal imaging. We also provide four weeks of dedicated research time to encourage pursuit of academic interests and participation in clinical and basic science research projects across the hospital and university. Many of our residents and fellows have presented at major national and international meetings, reflecting our commitment to academic excellence.
The core program constitutes around two-thirds of the academic year, and then there are an additional 8 weeks of elective time that can be customized to meet individual training needs. For those interested, rotations on our busy interventional radiology service are available.
Fostering Future Leaders
Both fellows and residents will play pivotal roles in providing clinical imaging services, managing consults, and handling on-call duties, while supervising technologists and interpreting studies. They will actively engage in teaching medical students, radiology residents, and peers from other pediatric disciplines, and they will contribute to modality-specific and department-wide quality improvement efforts. These experiences forge highly effective clinical radiologists and future leaders, poised for impactful careers in academic research and leadership roles.
Setting You up for Success
We provide various funding options, including fully funded positions for both Canadian subspecialty residents and international fellows, and we welcome applicants with a keen interest in our core missions: caring for children, pursuing new research investigations and clinical lines of inquiry, and mentoring trainees. We are committed to providing a supportive and enriching training environment that prepares you for success.
