Pediatric Radiology Fellowship

doctor hading prescription to mother and child

Site(s): BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH)

Overview

We are pleased to offer one-year positions as either a Subspecialty Resident or a Fellow in Pediatric Radiology. Subspecialty Residents will be Canadian trainees in Diagnostic Radiology who are eligible for subspecialty training at accredited programs under Royal College guidelines, while Fellows may be from any nation provided that they have completed or will soon complete appropriate training in radiology. Applicants should either have completed or are eligible to write certification exams administered by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Radiology, or an equivalent certifying institution in their home country. Both funded and sponsored/self-funded positions are available, and a fully-funded position is available for a Canadian Subspecialty Resident starting in 2020. We are interested in dynamic, thoughtful applicants with a strong demonstrated interest in our core missions of caring for children, investigating clinical questions, and teaching trainees.

Subspecialty Residents and Fellows will receive equivalent training in Pediatric Radiology that is aligned with Royal College subspecialty training requirements. This will include training in all of the core modalities and anatomic disciplines essential to Pediatric Radiology, including exposure to pediatric nuclear medicine and fetal imaging. At least 4 weeks of protected research time will be made available for academic pursuits, and trainees are encouraged to participate in clinical and basic science research in Pediatric Radiology in the Department or in multi-disciplinary research projects in the Hospital and University. In fact, many of our fellows have had posters and oral presentations accepted at major national meetings. These requirements comprise approximately two-thirds of the academic year, and the remaining 18 weeks can be tailored to meet the training required by the Fellow or Resident and to allow for elective time. Rotations on our busy interventional service are also available for those trainees who are interested.

Fellows and Residents will be expected to take on a central role in running the clinical imaging services, handling consults, managing evening and weekend on-call duties, supervising technologists and interpreting studies. They will be actively involved in teaching medical students and radiology residents, as well as Residents and Fellows from other pediatric disciplines. They will be expected to participate in modality-specific and department-wide quality improvement and assurance. These experiences will prepare our Fellows and Residents to be highly effective clinical radiologists and valued future colleagues, and will also lay the groundwork for careers in academic research and leadership for those who wish to pursue them.
