Re-Entry Residency Position, Department of Radiology

The UBC Department of Radiology has been funded for 1 Re-entry Residency Position in Diagnostic Radiology, with an expected start date of March 15, 2026 depending on evaluation of the successful applicant’s previous training. This re-entry residency position comes with a 3-year Return of Service (ROS) contract with the Ministry of Health. This year, the ROS is anticipated to be completed in the Interior Health Authority in British Columbia. The selected participant will be required to sign an ROS contract with the Ministry of Health as a condition of accepting the position; the contract must be in place prior to starting training.

Training for this ROS position will occur primarily in Vancouver, with opportunities for elective rotations throughout the province of BC.

 Eligibility

  •  Fully licensed practicing physician registered with a Canadian or a United States regulatory body
  • Interested applicants will have completed at least two years of post-graduate training and be in active practice for a minimum of 12 months at the time of application
  • Applicants must also be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident / landed immigrant – Transfers from other residency programs will not be permitted
  • Physicians currently fulfilling BC Return of Service commitments will not be eligible to apply for re-entry until full completion of their term
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated interest in working in the designated Health Authority
  • After completion of a three-month Transition to Discipline block, entry is likely at the PGY-2 level based on assessment of the candidates experience by the Competence Committee of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program with additional credit for training or relevant experience potentially available.

Application Process

A complete application package will consist of:

1. Proof of Canadian Citizenship – Provide one of the following:

  • Canadian Birth Certificate or Act of Birth
  • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship
  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence in Canada
  • Passport page showing Canadian Citizenship
  • Canadian Permanent Resident Card (both sides of card)
  • Certificate of Indian Status / Aboriginal Status or Makivik Society Card
  • Canadian Citizenship Card (both sides of card)

2. Official transcripts (for all post-secondary training such as a BA, BSc, Masters, PhD, and medical school transcripts)

3. Curriculum Vitae

4. If completed before discontinuation, proof of Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part II

5. Personal statement discussing professional aspirations and suitability for practice in the designated Health Authorities. The maximum length is one page.

6. Detailed description of residency training in the past or to date. This description should include information about relevant training and work experience.

7. Three (3) letters of reference. Three (3) letters of reference. Letters should include information similar to those items required by the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS). One letter must be from the current Chief of Staff or Department Head. If the applicant is within 5 years of completion of residency, a letter from the program director or an individual knowledgeable about their residency training overall should also be provided.

Referees must email their reference letters directly to radiology.residency@ubc.ca. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all reference letters are submitted by the application deadline. The position will be offered on a competitive basis by application. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed. Interviews will take place in November 2025.

Deadline for Application: November 28, 2025. Late submission and incomplete applications will not be considered.
